Greek foil racer John Soukos (GRE-198) is back on an international podium. Racing on CHS Challenger sails, John finished third overall at the 2026 IFCA Foiling European Championships, held from 15 to 19 July on the North Sea waters of St. Peter-Ording, Germany, as part of the California Windsurf Cup.

A comeback written race by race

John opened the championship in the best possible way, taking the win in the very first race. A run of inconsistent results then dropped him as far as fifth overall — but he never let the podium out of sight. Race after race he clawed his way back up the leaderboard, closing the week on the third step.

At the top of the final men’s standings, Amado Vrieswijk claimed the European crown ahead of Germany’s Fabi Wolf, with John Soukos completing the podium.

Five days on the North Sea

St. Peter-Ording delivered everything a foiling championship could ask for: one of the deepest international fleets of the season, shifting North Sea conditions and even a rest day when the wind dropped. In that kind of week, cool heads and consistency decide medals — and John found both when it mattered most.
