Greek rider John Soukos has finished 3rd in the Unlimited category at the 2026 Défi Wind, the legendary long-distance windsurf event held in Gruissan, France, from 14 to 17 May. Flying CHS Challenger sails on foil, Soukos battled 1,350 riders and one of the most brutal Tramontana editions in the event’s history to claim a hard-earned spot on the podium.

A race against the elements
Day 1 set the tone. Gusts up to 45 knots ripped across the 900-metre start line of the Étang de Mateille minutes before the rabbit boat opened the course. Of the 1,199 riders who launched, only 622 made it to the finish of the 40-kilometre course. The rest were forced to throw in the towel — a number that says everything about the conditions on the water.
Foil-only: a bold call
While many in the Unlimited category switched between fin and foil to manage the wind shifts, Soukos committed to the foil from start to finish — even on the opening day’s storm. It was a choice that demanded confidence in the equipment as much as in the rider. The bet paid off across five races: enough consistency in extreme winds to keep him in podium contention from day one.
The win went to Amado Vrieswijk, with Alexis Mathis in second. Soukos closed the podium in third — a result that confirms CHS Challenger sails as race-proven gear at the very top of long-distance foil racing.
Get well soon, Cyril
Belgian rider Cyril Evrard, also part of the CHS family, was forced to withdraw on day 1 after a heavy crash. The whole CHS team is sending him strength — recovery first, the water can wait.
Cyril, we’re with you. Take all the time you need and come back stronger. We can’t wait to see you back on a Challenger sail soon. 💪

Built for this
Conditions like the 2026 Défi Wind don’t reward marketing. They reward construction, profile, and trim. Every CHS racing sail is designed and built in our Senigallia loft, tested by the riders who race them, and refined in the same room where they’re made. When 45 knots of Tramontana hit the start line, that matters.
